On January 20 to January 22 my Boy Scout Troop and I went on a campout to Hontoon Island. To get across the river you need to take a ferry, which meant that we needed to put all of our gear from the trailer and cars into the ferry. This took 3 trips to get everything across! When we got across we loaded up a van with all of the gear and drove to the campsite.
Now let me tell you about Hontoon Island. It is not a small island, it is 1648 acres of land! It supports a lot of life, such as bear, dozens of bird species, manatees, alligators, and much more. It is mainly a forest/swamp ecosystem The farther inland you get, the more forested, the closer you get to the water the swampier it gets.
